BRITISH ETIQUETTE: SMART CASUAL

Share it Please
A dress code of smart casual requires that you look smart but not overly formal.

Men should wear a jacket or blazer and flannels or chinos, not jeans.

A shirt and tie can be worn but an open collar is also acceptable.

Women should aim to be smart in a dress or skirt and top with a jacket or smart cover-up.

Avoid sportswear and wear smart shoes, never trainers. Equally don't be too formal; hats and evening gowns will look out of place.

  1. In my old work we have to wear with a code dress, but in frydays we can wear "casual".
In this job, we had the "Christmas dinner", a party when all the employed and the bosses dinner and make some games together. In this Christmas dinner we should wear "smart casual", I can't believe that we have to follow somes rules to go to a party! we couldn't wear a cardigan sweater or some kind of trousers. It's a party! we should wear like we like!

  2. Thank you Beatriz for your comment, a few grammar points to bear in mind:

In my old work we "HAD" "A" DRESS CODE, but "ON" "FRIDAYS" we "COULD" wear "casual"CLOTHES.
In this job, we had "A" "Christmas dinner", WHICH WAS a party WHERE all the EMPLOYEES and bosses HAD dinner TOGETHER and PLAYED some games together. AT this Christmas dinner we HAD TO wear "smart casual", I can't believe that we HAD to follow some rules to go to a party! We couldn't wear a cardigan sweater or CERTAIN TYPES of trousers. It's a party! we should BE ABLE TO wear WHAT WE WANT!
